your account

getting in

bimbooo is invite-only. you ring the doorbell with two short answers, and you are let in by hand, usually within a day or two. there is no automatic sign-up, and that is on purpose: it keeps this a small, quiet place.

your room

every account has a set amount of room for what it keeps. you will not normally bump into it. if you find you need more, ask.

signing in

once you are approved, you sign in at bimb.ooo with the name and password you chose. your things live at your desk, and your site lives at your subdomain. the name and the address on your account both work, so you can use whichever you remember.

a browser you sign in from is remembered, with a small cookie that lives only on bimb.ooo and never on anybody's site. it is there for one reason: if somebody else keeps typing wrong passwords at your name, the sign-in form starts turning that name away for a while, and a browser that has let you in before is let in anyway. it is not a way in by itself, you still need your password, and changing your password makes every browser forget you at once.

forgotten your password

say so at the sign-in form and we send a way back in to the address on your account. the link works once and runs out in half an hour, and following it signs out everything else that was signed in and makes every other browser forget you, which is what you want if the reason you are here is that somebody else got in.

if you have lost the address too, say hello and the keeper sorts it out by hand.

taking your things with you

there is a download on your settings page that hands you everything at once: a zip with your files at the paths they answer on, and an index.json beside them holding what a plain file cannot, like what was public, what was a draft and what had a date on it. a read-once note that has been read is listed but has no file, because there is nothing left of it to give.

taking a copy changes nothing on your shelf, and you can take one whenever you like. it is your writing.

leaving

at the bottom of your settings there is a way to delete your account. it takes everything: every page, picture and draft, and any domain of your own you pointed here. your site stops answering the moment you do it. there is no undo and nobody can put it back, so take the download above first if you want your writing.

it asks for your password and for your name typed out, so a stolen session or a password manager filling in boxes cannot do it for you.

your name is retired afterwards. nobody can take it, which means nobody can start writing at the address people knew as yours. only a fingerprint of the name is kept to recognise it, nothing else.

the copies kept in case the service breaks still hold your things for a while, a week as things are set up here, and then they rotate out on their own. the page you leave from says exactly how long. after that there is nothing left.

hearing from us

two different things arrive by email, and only one of them has a switch.

about your account: being let in, being put on hold and why, being welcomed back, and the link when you ask for a new password. these reach you whatever your settings say. being told what happened to your own place is not a newsletter, and nobody should be able to turn it off, including you.

about the service: a short note now and then when something is added or starts working differently. there is a switch for that in your corner. it is on to begin with, and turning it off is one click with no questions.

your address is used for those two things and for signing in. it is never given to anybody, never sold, and never shown on a page.

the square

the square is where a visitor can see who lives here and what has been going up. you are listed to begin with, and you can stop being listed from your corner at any time.

what it shows is only what was already public on your site, so leaving does not hide anything that was hidden before, and staying does not reveal anything that was not. it hides the shelf, not the things on it.

getting in touch

something that needs looking at, a question, or anything else: say hello. one person reads it and answers by hand.
